The AGM was held in Chester City on Saturday 16th September 2006, and a reasonable number turned up for the Meeting, which turned out to be something of a Memorable Occasion.
In the Chair was Brian Hughes, who had already indicated that he would not seek re-election due to ill health issues. Rather surprisingly, the Committee had already elected a New Chairman, whereas one would have thought that the election would have been made in an open meeting where the election would have been made by those present. As it happened, the electee was a popular choice, being Bill Casbolt, a veteran of the committee for many years.
Thanks were made to Brian, who had been in the Chair since the formation of the Association in 1988. Brian conducted the Meeting with great decorum, seeing as he kept on saying, "This is my last time in the Chair, and I am going to follow the procedure in full and properly too!"
The other Officers up for election were all returned unopposed. Please see Committee Page for details.
A number of those who had crossed the Bar was read out by the Hon. Secretary, and they have been added to the Sunset Page in the Obituary Column.
Apologies were made on behalf of Eric Delderfield, Sid Reeves, Peter Hartell and Len Bloomfield.
Presentations were made to Brian Hughes and Frank Farmer, see pictures on this page.
The Social Secretary apologised for the problems with the Hotel, and promised that in future the Mini Reunion would be held on the second weekend in May and the AGM Reunion would be held in the second weekend in September for subsequent years.
In any other business I thanked the Association for allowing me to recover my Server Costs, and also made an application for payment for a One Off item of Software.
Flowers were presented to the wife of the retiring Chairman and to the wife of Frank Farmer who retired as Standard Bearer last year, but had not been able to attend meetings in order to receive a commemorative plaque until this meeting. See photographs on this page.
I did mention that Jock Kerr's grave had still not been re-discovered, even though the Royal British Legion was doing their best to find it. It appears that the Graveyard has been moved twice in the last fifty years, so it may be that Jocks grave may never again be traced....
Following the Parade, some members attended the Church Service next door almost to the Hotel, but due to some misunderstanding, some members declined to attend, so let us hope that this does not happen again in the future.
The Meeting was closed at 12 Noon.
